The small island of Caye Caulker, located off the coast of Belize, is about to become home to a new chess club.
The Caye Caulker chess Club held its first official meeting on the 23rd April 2023. Alfred Awe from The Belize Chess Federation (BCF), traveled to Caye Caulker to meet with Mr. Maximilliano Novelo and Ms. Olivia Dacosta to help develop Chess in Caye Caulker. The club generated a lot of interest among the locals and visitors with many adults and children attending.
The Belize Chess Federation has donated three chess boards to the Caye Caulker Chess Club and hopes to continue to provide support to the club. Maximilliano Novelo, who will be operating the new club out of his Sunrise Scuba office, is an avid chess enthusiast and has a passion for the game. He reached out to the BCF for assistance to form a chess club and we greatly appreciate his willingness to help us promote the game.
In addition, Ms. Olivia Dacosta, who manages Sunrise Scuba, has been appointed as the BCF Secretary and will assist in the management of the club. Her expertise and dedication will be vital in ensuring the success of the club and promoting the game of chess in the area.
The new chess club is open to all, regardless of experience or skill level. Whether you are a seasoned player or a beginner, everyone is welcome to come and play. The club is an excellent opportunity for locals and visitors alike to meet new people, socialize, and challenge their minds.
BCF President, Mr. Steve Flowers, is set to make an appearance at the club sometime in the future to see the progress of the chess club and provide further support.
The club will meet every Sunday from 11am to 4pm at the Sunrise Scuba office, providing a great location for chess enthusiasts to come together. With the support of the BCF and Sunrise Scuba, the club is sure to be a success, bringing a new sense of community and engagement to the island.
Chess is a game that promotes critical thinking, strategy, and problem-solving skills, all of which are essential in everyday life. By establishing a chess club in Caye Caulker, the BCF is providing an opportunity for people to improve these skills in a fun and engaging way. The club will also help to build a sense of community and provide a platform for people to come together and socialize.
We would like to thank Max and Olivia for their contributions to chess in Belize and for providing accommodations to our representative, Mr. Alfred Awe, during his stay.
The establishment of a new chess club in Caye Caulker is an exciting development for chess in Belize and we at the BCF hope that we can continue to create new chess clubs over the country. If you are interested in joining the club, be sure to stop by the Sunrise Scuba office on Sundays between 11am and 4pm to join in the fun!
