On Saturday, August 31st, the forth qualifying tournament for the Belize National Chess Championship Cycle took place at the Belmopan Comprehensive Highschool in Belmopan City. The winner of this event earned a coveted spot in the upcoming challenger’s tournament later this year. We extend our gratitude to Belmopan Comprehensive Highschool for graciously hosting our event.
Tournament Overview
The tournament featured 24 players hailing from Stann Creek, Cayo, Belize, Orange Walk and visiting players. Among the participants were top contenders such as last years championship winner, Rank 2 Greg Vitko, Rank 4 Kenneth Perez, Rank 9 Nathaniel Reyes, and several other members of our top 20. Notably, the Stann Creek tournament winner Jim Banks, Joseph Koop and Kuang Lin.

Jim Banks wins his second event for the year and is the top seed heading into the challengers tournament.
Greg Vitko and Gabriel Miller finish second and 3rd place however do not have Belizean Residency so Kenneth Perez qualifies for the Challengers Tournament.

Kurtis Andrade defeated Jaylon Saldano in a tie break match to Win the Junior Section of the tournament.
Both Kurtis Andrade and Jaylon Saldano will qualify for the championship finals.
