President of the Belize Chess Federation (BCF), Steve Flowers, recently embarked on a trip to support and engage with the Caye Caulker Chess Club. The visit, which took place on May 14th, offered Mr. Flowers the opportunity to witness the progress of the club and even challenge some of the players in friendly matches.

During his visit, Mr. Flowers engaged in productive discussions with Ms. Olivia Dacosta, the BCF Secretary, and Mr. Maximillio Novelo, the club manager and owner of Sunrise Scuba. These conversations provided insights into the operations of the Caye Caulker Chess Club and explored avenues for further collaboration and support.

In a short statement, Steve Flowers said, "Visiting the new Sunrise Scuba chess club in Caye Caulker was a blast! The club shows great promise. I know because the kids forgot they had to eat lunch!"

To demonstrate the BCF's commitment to fostering chess in Belize, Mr. Flowers, along with the federation, contributed three additional chess sets to the Caye Caulker Chess Club. This gesture not only enhances the club's resources but also promotes the accessibility of chess for aspiring players in the region.

Looking ahead, the BCF eagerly anticipates hosting one of its qualifying tournaments, the Belize National Chess Grand Prix, at Caye Caulker. This exciting event will bring together skilled chess players from across the nation, showcasing the growth and talent within the Belizean chess community.

The BCF remains committed to expanding the reach of chess, fostering a vibrant chess culture, and providing opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels. Through collaborations with clubs like the Caye Caulker Chess Club and the support of passionate individuals, Belize continues to nurture its chess community and contribute to the development of the game.
